This book isn’t terrible or anything, but the biggest problem is it’s so milquetoast holy crap. Quotes from Midnighters Manga 1. His story line with the disappeared midnighter Anathea and the unity between the darklings and the hunters is merely splendid. But it took me a bit to get back into the characters, especially because I didn’t remember them being this obnoxious. This is my first sci-fi book so it was kind of hard to get into but once that was over and I got to know the characters I found myself trying to find ways for the characters to escape For some reason, despite the corny nature of it, the ending sentence just made my heart so happy. They cannot tell that an hour has passed for the special few who can live in the extra hour. I just couldn’t get over my discomfort of the world that he created which is why it only ranked 2 stars.
Now he invented new problems, that could be solved with the help of Jess, but that would be too easy, so Westerfeld put her aside and made the others stupid and helpless. I really liked Jonathan and didn’t understand everyone else’s aversion to him. Is he the same person mostly? Other books in the series. Mind-blowing at the very least. The different perspectives are interesting and helpful with character development. If she touches someone, it’s intimate and invasive for both of them because she is privy to all their thoughts and their mind gets slightly squiggled. Does any of the kids wonder about this?
The story set-up reminded me a lot of William Sleator’s young adult sci-fi in a very good way, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing where the story goes in the next installment of the series. I also struggled with connecting with the characters and sometimes I had the feeling that nothing really interesting was happening.
This is the Westerfield brings the grey area in this second book in the Midnighters series. I just want to know more. Nothing stood out to bother me, but it wasn’t amazing.
Midnighter Series by Steve Orlando
And at the end While mifnighters first book laid out the framework of the characters’ personalities, Touching Darkness took their interpersonal relationships above and beyond. Westerfeld ha una grandissima e fervida immaginazione. In Bixby Oklahoma for one hour every night time freezes, everything midngihters everyone stops. Un romanzetto sempliciotto, con scarse pretese. Talk about not making most of the moment. In what she calls “the secret hour”, rain, people, smoke, everything stops as the world is bathed in a blue light and a different moon arcs across the sky. Moreover, can someone shut every trap except Jonathan’s?
InWesterfeld married fellow author Justine Larbalestier. That makes no sense. Jan 01, Jessica rated it liked it Shelves: Jessica was a little naive, but I don’t know if it was because of her being the new girl or if that’s just her, Dess was very juvenile, Rex was ok but seemed a little controlling, and then Melissa I just flat out didn’t like.
Nonostante la faccenda delle parole di tredici lettere alla lunga mi infastidisse. The midnight kids are just irresistible.
The novel I read for Unit Four was Midnighters: Rex and Melissa are finding love and also discover that Darklings have a way to communicate with a group of humans who are not midnighters. During this hour, normal time stops and there are ancient creatures that come out, and recently these creatures have started attacking the newest member of the group who moved to the small town from Chicago. Apr 27, Andrea rated it liked it Shelves: I MIGHT read the next one someday in the hope that the vague hints that something compelling might ever happen will be borne out.
Not a bad followup. Dec 30, Cindy Newton rated it liked it Shelves: I think I read the first one in the trilogy, The Secret Hour, at some point last fall, without much enthusiasm. This book was a quick and easy read and was entertaining.
They usually don’t attack, but when Jessica Day shows up and realizes that she’s a midnighter, the darklings and slithers come for her the minute they sense her presence.
Changing this one to a four because I don’t think it was as great as other books I’ve given five stars – however, it was a solid second installment to the Midnighters series and did leave me eagerly awaiting the next one.
And a bit lame.

Speaking of couples though, I really enjoyed reading about the first touchingly tremulant moments that Rex and Melissa spent together, closer. Pheby Torpy rated it really liked it Apr 05, All changes when Jessica Day comes to Bixby High with a hidden power.
Of the main characters the only one I didn’t find painfully uninteresting was Dess, and even her characterization was pretty trite. You have to admit it sounds awfully silly.
The main focus was description of the secret hour and the discovery of Jessica’s “superpower”, which wasn’t made until the end of the novel. Overall, this one felt like it dragged more than the last one. This is the kind of series that gets better as it goes.
That is until Jessica and Jonathan spy someone taking pictures outside of her window at exactly midnight. Trivia About Gokdreads Secret Hour Follow this intriguing tale to find out. Besides, he uses different points of view. I did not expect the book to end the way it did. I literary flew through the book just forgot to post.
